Christmas, why must you go?

The Holidays have flown by. Maybe its because of the crazy work schedules. Or maybe every year I just get older and the child-like imagination I once had is slowly fleeting.

This Christmas was unique in it's own way. We spent Christmas Eve with my Mother and Sister and a dear friend playing games, eating good food and exchanging gifts. (P.S. If you haven't tried the new game "Speak Out", you should. It's hilarious and makes you laugh so hard you drool.)
Kyson bought me a set of essential oils and a diffuser that my mom thought looked like a wooden onion. It lights up inside and makes me feel like a professional yogi/meditator. Maybe one day. I got Kyson an Xbox game he had wanted... JK it was the wrong one, but he played it anyway. :)

Christmas Morning, Kyson and I went out to Ihop for breakfast (weird I know). It was just the two of us,  and with hectic work schedules, and family out of state, It seemed a bit easier.  Tasted good, so I'm not complaining. :P

I hope everyone had a Merry Christmas! Here are a few of our usual family traditions, let me know what yours are in the comments!

1. Honey Baked Ham
2. Yummy Candles like this one here
3. Candy Cane Cookies

New Drawings Every SUNDAY!!!

I'm starting a new segment on the blog where I will be posting a drawing every Sunday! the hashtag for my instagram @amileekaearts will be #sketchonsunday yay!  Stay tuned.

Artwork by Amilee

Here is today's #sketchonsunday done in photoshop. This is a light study of @cheyenneconrady. It took about 4 hours time.

What I like about it: I have never done any kind of underexposed colored lighting before only black and white, so that's new! Overall I think it turned out pretty cool.

What I struggled with: The lips took a minute to get right and the angle wasn't exactly what I wanted.

Let me know what you think down below ↓↓↓

Lost Cat

Not to long ago my baby girl Zindy, who I have had for 7 is years now, decided she had enough of the cooped up apartment life and slipped out the front door along with Kitten, our new kitty that we couldn't decide on a name for(this is why we call her Kitten).  Thankfully Kitten was caught safely, but it wasn't until after I went to bed that I realized Zindy was missing.

In realization of her absence, I hurriedly jumped out of bed and ran to go search for her. I could hear her meowing but couldn't see her in the confusing hallways of the apartment complex. Kyson and I spent all night looking for her and eventually gave in to the exhaustion and decided to continue our search later.
The next week we put up flyers, called shelters, and told the maintenance man at our apartments to keep an eye out for her. Still no one had found her.  About three weeks later I received a call from a vet just south of me, she explained that she may have my kitty. I asked, " is she all white with one blue and one greenish eye? " and she said yes. But it turned out that kitty's microchip didn't match Zindy's.

After just about giving up on my search, I got a call from a friendly hispanic lady who said she thought she had my missing cat that had scratched on her door one rainy night. Turns out it was Zindy! I ran over to pick her up and the lady wouldn't even take my cash reward. I wish I would have asked for her name just to give her a shout out, but seriously I couldn't thank her enough for keeping her safe.

Now Zindy is home and Kyson calls her a "mexicat" because she keeps scratching on the door to go back to the lady's house...  she is also slowly but surely being reunited with Kitten while they hiss at each other constantly. Yes it's annoying. Yes they keep me up all night. But I couldn't be happier having them both home safe and sound.

Fall Portraits

Its my favorite time of the year; everything pumpkin, warm colors, sweater weather, and picture time! woot woot.

Meet Christina:
Part Finnish, Part annoying little sister, and everything in between. I remember this youngin' as such a tomboy, running around like the little fiery dare devil of the family, and now she has grown into such a beautiful young woman. Look out boys.

New Drawing!

Yay!  I finally drew something.

Its been months. I used to draw every day... but i drew something, and here it is.

This is Courtney Halverson, Actress and blogger of "prettylittlefawn".
The drawing is done digitally with my Wacom tablet through photoshop. It's my first finished digital project and overall I'm pretty happy with the way it turned out!

In comparison to actual canvas, it was pretty difficult to get used to at first, especially with the layering. I'm used to oil paint having to dry and being able to physically layer the texture, but I love to challenge myself with as many new mediums as I possibly can.  My favorite part is

If you like it let me know in the comments section. Also, I need some new inspiration... Any ideas?

Over my birthday weekend, Kyson and I set off on a mini vacation to southern Utah.  After years of living here I still haven't seen all there is to see in Utah, so finding new and exciting places to travel within my home state is always exciting! The plan was to take the loop down through Bryce canyon and up through Escalante, stopping there to hike beautiful Calf Creek Falls.
And beautiful it is.

The first night we traveled down through Bryce and then camped out in the small town of Escalante at the Canyons of Escalante RV park. In the morning we ate at a local restaurant near by, and set off for the hike at Calf Creek.  The hike is a 3 mile hike to the falls and a 3 mile hike back, although it felt more like 9 miles with the heat and sun bearing hard on our skin. Once you arrive to the falls, the 56 degree pool of water is freezing, but leaves you refreshed and ready to head back through the canyon.

After the long and exhausting day of hiking, we decided to set up camp at a small, and pretty unknown campground near Deer Creek. The campground is set between the creek and a wall of red canyon, keeping you sheltered from the hot sun, and allowing you a water source (which would need filtered of course).  We loved this campground and highly recommend it if you would like to hike Calf Creek , but don't like the touristy, over crowded camp grounds.
